Once a year, the gates to Taupō’s famous Craters Mountain Bike Park open for runners & walkers — and you get to experience its legendary single track on foot.
The Craters Trail Run winds through regenerating native bush, past volcanic features, and along fast, flowing trails normally reserved for mountain bikes.
With gentle climbs, thrilling descents, and a course that rewards both speed and endurance, this event offers a truly unique chance to run & walk where wheels usually rule.
The Craters Trail Run is a trail event you won’t find anywhere else.

21km Craters Trail Run/Walk
Experience some of the best trails Craters Mountain Bike Park offers. Starting from The Hub, head through the tunnel under Wairakei Drive onto Tourist Trap, then to Craters carpark.
Enjoy the thrilling Spyce Girls and Connection trails, passing two aid stations along the way. Discover the secret gem on Mr & Mrs, traverse the Outback with its great views, then tackle Walter’s Wiggles and Scraggs. Finish strong on SH Fun and Zip.

12km Craters Trail Run/Walk
Venture through pine forest and native trails, starting at The Hub and passing through the tunnel to Tourist Trap. Reach Craters carpark before hitting Spyce Girls and Connection.
After your aid station, enjoy the highlights of Mr & Mrs, Walter’s Wiggles, and Scraggs. Finish your run via Log Out and Zip.

6km Craters Trail Run/Walk
A fun but challenging course through pine forest. Start at The Hub, pass through the tunnel to Tourist Trap, then navigate Beagle Boys before reaching the aid station at Manager’s Corner.
Continue along Log Out and finish strong on Zip.
