Once a year, Kinloch’s spectacular hills, ridgelines, and lakefront come alive with the Kinloch Offroad Challenge — a stunning mix of rugged farmland, bush tracks, and panoramic views over Lake Taupō.
The course takes you through twisting single track, rolling hills, and wide-open farm trails, blending challenging climbs with fast, flowing descents.
With terrain that tests both strength and stamina, and scenery that rewards every step, this is an offroad experience that captures the very best of the central North Island.

Long Distance - 21km | Mid Distance - 10km | Short Distance - 5km
21km Kinloch Trail Run/Walk
Starting at Kinloch Domain, head left onto Mata Place and follow roads to Boojum Dell. Join the W2K track for flowing single trail and climb to the shelter. Turn right for the Kinloch Headland Loop, enjoying stunning views of Lake Taupō and snow-capped peaks.
Drop back to Kinloch via Boojum Dell, boardwalk, and lakefront. Cross the Marina bridge, hear the finish-line buzz, and sprint to the Kinloch Domain.

10km Kinloch Trail Run/Walk
From Kinloch Domain, head left onto Mata Place and into Boojum Dell. Drop to the gully, follow the boardwalk to the lakefront, and cross the Marina bridge. Continue along the clifftop reserve to Whangamata Stream Track, crossing Lynley’s Bridge before looping back beside the stream.
Take a short out-and-back toward Kawakawa Bay, turning at the style. Finish along the beach track, soaking in lake views, and return to the Kinloch Domain.

5km Kinloch Trail Run/Walk
From Kinloch Domain, head right onto Mata Place, then along the clifftop reserve to Whangamata Stream Track. Follow the stream to the Horse Bridge, pausing to spot the Water Wheel. Cross the bridge, return down the stream to the lakefront, and turn left onto the beach track.
Enjoy the lake’s edge before the final stretch to the Kinloch Domain, perfect for first-timers, families, and anyone ready to taste the trail-running buzz.
